UPDATE: Salford Red Devils have signed Feleti Mateo from the NRL until the end of the season – as well as former Super League prop Luke Burgess.
Mateo joins on a deal until the end of the season, with Red Devils coach Ian Watson delighted to get the experienced forward on board.
“Feleti is a great addition to our squad, he comes with a wealth of experience at the highest level, and will be able to bring that into the 8’s,” he said.
“Our guys have really stood up during the regular season and bringing in players of Luke’s quality will give everybody a boost at this stage. We have been monitoring him since before the season and are delighted to be bringing him to the AJ Bell Stadium.
“We have been a top six team on our performances and we have to go out and get through a tough middle 8s making sure our play is up to the same standard. Luke will add to our squad and cause our opponents problems.”
Director of Rugby Tim Sheens spoke about the two captures from Manly “We are bringing in a couple of great players as insurance. You can’t risk going into the 8s and picking up a couple of injuries and finding yourself relegated.
“We are looking to get the guys over this weekend or certainly early next week to get them prepared for our first game of the Qualifiers.”
Salford Red Devils are understood to be close to confirming the signing an of NRL star in time for the upcoming Qualifiers.
The Red Devils have been linked with a number of players of late, including current Manly forward Feleti Mateo.
Any deal is subject to being completed in time before the registration deadline, which is 5pm on Friday afternoon.
But the Red Devils are confident they can land their new man to boost Ian Watson’s squad significantly ahead of the Qualifiers – with the paperwork ongoing as we speak.
