Salford Red Devils are keen on signing Morgan Escaré after the fullback was released by Wigan.
The Frenchman is understood to have left the Warriors before the Super League season was suspended and it’s believed the Red Devils have been in talks with the 28-year-old since the club learned of Niall Evalds’ impending move to Castleford.
Wigan have yet to officially announce his departure, but confirmation is expected this week, with his time at the club coming to an end following a difficult spell.
A deal has yet to be finalised with Salford and there are other clubs who have expressed interest. But all indications suggest Escaré will link up with the club once the Red Devils are back in training ahead of Super League’s return.
The former Catalans fullback struggled for opportunities following Adrian Lam’s arrival at the club and he ended last year on loan at Wakefield. He played just six games under Lam since he was made head coach at the start of 2019.
The French international was a prolific try-scorer during his time in Perpignan, scoring 65 tries in 91 appearances for the Dragons before moving to Wigan.
Capped eleven times by France, his arrival will heighten speculation that Evalds could join Castleford before the end of the season.
The Tigers’ fullback, Jordan Rankin, has been released from his contract on compassionate grounds. And with Salford set to bring in Evalds’ replacement early, it could be seen as an opportunity for the club to cash in on a player who will leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.
