SALFORD RED DEVILS star Nene Macdonald will return to Australia following his stint at Oldham for the birth of his child.
Macdonald, who has been on loan with the Roughyeds after being unable to play for Salford due to the £1.2 million sustainability cap imposed on the Super League club, is expected to be back around the middle of May.
That is when the Red Devils’ financial issues are scheduled to be solved, with the 30-year-old set to play his final game for Oldham in this weekend’s Easter clash against Widnes Vikings.
The PNG international has played the last two games for the Roughyeds, including a 30-28 win over Featherstone Rovers at the weekend, and managing director Mike Ford explained the situation.
Ford told BBC Radio Manchester: “When you do your recruitment, you’ve got to balance your squad between experience with people who’ve been there and done it in this competition with the youth. But also, you need a bit of stardust.
“Nene Macdonald, (who was in) the Super League Dream Team in 2024 is one of the best centres in Super League.
“He’s going to be playing for us for the next two weeks before he goes back to Australia for his wife to have a baby.
“He’s stardust for us.”
