Sam Burgess hands out England caps

It has become traditional in sport – particularly Rugby League – for high-profile sporting figures to hand out international caps to those who are making their debut in an upcoming game.

Even before the Super League Grand Final, both clubs have made a habit out of getting influential figures to present the players with their shirts – Wigan had Jonny Wilkinson doing the job this year, whilst St Helens flew over club legend Tom Van Vollenhoven.

And with four debutants set to make their England bow this weekend, they were presented with their caps by a man who knows a thing or two about playing for England Rugby League – soon-to-be rugby union star Sam Burgess.

Joe Westerman initially tweeted the image, with a picture of him, Matty Smith, Daryl Clark and Josh Hodgson receiving their caps from NRL winner Burgess – who is set to fly back to the UK imminently to start a new career with Bath RU.
