Wakefield head coach Brian Smith has stated that his side are continuously making progress ahead of today’s game with Catalans.
With one victory to their name after four outings, the Wildcats are hopeful of turning performances into victories this weekend.
They put in a defiant display in defeat to Warrington last week, which came a week after defeating Hull KR.
Catalans are the challenge they come up against today, and Smith is seeking further development.
“Within our own group I feel like we’re about where we thought we’d be,” he told TotalRL.
“On reflection we could have beaten Widnes on the opening day, Castleford outplayed us everywhere on the day and we won at Hull KR in tough circumstances before losing to Warrington. Competing is the word we’re liking to use, and our next phase involves us continuing that and having less lapses.”
Catalans have been inconsistent in their opening performances, although that isn’t a surprise to Smith.
“Anyone who was expecting big things so early on from a team who’s got as many new players as they have are being a bit harsh. We’ve got some similarities in that regard ourselves, and trying to get it to come together as quickly as you can is tough, I know that.”
