Smith satisfied with dominant Wolves

Warrington head coach Tony Smith gave Warrington’s opening pre-season performance the thumbs up after thrashing Widnes 40-0.

A Kurt Gidley masterclass ensured the Wolves got off to the perfect start, with their impeccable defensive efforts another pleasing factor for the Warrington chief.

And Smith admitted that he couldn’t have asked for much more from his side’s first outing of the new season.

“It was solid from my boys. I thought they were on song with what’s expected from them at this time of year,” said Smith afterwards.
“I don’t think you can expect too much from them when you throw them together for the first time. We’ve been practising but this is the first time they’ve rubbed shoulders as a group and they really complemented themselves well.”
