Solomona facing nervous wait after picking up injury

Denny Solomona’s attempts to break Super League’s try-scoring records are in doubt, after he picked up an ankle injury in Castleford’s defeat to St Helens.

The Tigers flier, who needs four more tries to break the competition’s all-time record for tries scored in a season, was seen limping throughout Castleford’s 40-16 defeat at Langtree Park.

Solomona will meet with physios on Friday to assess the extent of the injury.

Following the defeat, he told TotalRL that he was hopeful the injury wasn’t too serious.

“It’s my ankle, one of the defenders landed awkwardly on it, so we’ll see what happens,” he said.

“We’re going to go to the physio and go from there, but at the moment it feels alright, I was running at least. It would have been a bad sign if I couldn’t run. It is what it is.

“I’ll get to the physios and doctors and hopefully it won’t be so bad.”

Monday’s League Express will feature an extensive interview with Solomona about his try-scoring accomplishments.
