Castleford winger Denny Solomona wants to play for Samoa, and he would like to do so as early as this season.
Solomona is Super League’s leading try-scorer with 13 touchdowns after eleven rounds of the competition. He has been in impressive form domestically and is keen to make his presence felt on the international scene ahead of next year’s World Cup.
New Zealand-born Solomona would be eligible to play internationally for several countries, including England, New Zealand and Fiji.
However, the opportunity to represent Samoa and honour his grandparents’ Samoan heritage is one that the Tigers flier is keen to fulfil in the future.
Samoa’s squad has a number of Super League-based players in its squad, including Frank Pritchard, Carlos Tuimavave and Solomona’s Castleford teammate, Ben Roberts.
And the 22-year-old is keen to join them in the near future.
“I’d love to play for Samoa,” Solomona said.
“It would be a big thing for my family and me as well. I think Samoa would be great for me and it would make my grandparents proud, and that would be main thing. Later on, maybe I’d represent New Zealand as well
“It’s everyone’s dream to represent their country. Obviously if that call comes I’ll take it with both hands, but at the moment I’m focusing on Castleford.”
