Hull FC winger Steve Michaels has confirmed he is in talks with the club about a new contract.

Michaels was widely expected to leave the club at the end of the season, with Hull initially opting against handing the 28-year-old an extension to the two-year deal he signed when he joined at the start of the 2015 season.

But Michaels has revealed how talks have begun about an extension – and how he’s delighted to be staying.

“We’re sorting it out this week,” he said. “We’ve left it late enough but fingers crossed it’ll all be sorted and I’m hoping to stay. It’s in the works.

“I’m delighted to stay; the boys are very tight here, like family. I was preparing to go home for a little while and counting the games down.

“I was getting sad as we’ve achieved so much – but there’s so much still to play for too and my focus is now on Old Trafford.”

Hull will have to reach the Grand Final the hard way, having been handed an away tie at Wigan this Friday in the play-off semi-finals.

The opportunity to secure a home semi and the League Leader’s Shield passed Hull by on Friday when they lost to Warrington – and Michaels admitted their energy levels were once again a concern.

“Yeah, it’s probably the energy,” he said. “They turned up with more energy than us. I can’t put my finger on it at the moment.

“We’ll look at the review but we need to get back to the ways where we were full of energy. And our attack was more in sync.

“We have to do it the hard way by going to Wigan but it’s still definitely achievable.

“We can take a leaf out of their book and look at how they responded to the Challenge Cup loss to us.

“It definitely hurt and we just want to try respond. They were depleted with injuries as well. We won’t drop our heads know; we what our squad can do.”
