‘This has got to hurt’: Chris Chester pulls no punches after Castleford Tigers defeat

INTERIM Castleford Tigers coach Chris Chester was frustrated by his team’s lack of resilience in defeat to Salford Red Devils, concluding a difficult week for the club after parting with Danny McGuire.

“It was really disappointing. I think we started the game really well and challenged their middle by playing direct, but the errors we made were poor and we looked so flimsy at times defending; it’s simple errors letting us down,” he admitted.

“There was a big swing with the Jerry (Simbiken) no-try under the posts, but it’s one that you’ve just got to take and it was a really disappointing, ill-disciplined performance.

“The boys are working hard but we just find ourselves saying the same things week in, week out. There are changes to be made with the playing roster and the head coach, so we have to be hard on ourselves.”

Chester pulled no punches, insisting everyone at the club has to get better in order to turn things around.

“This has got to hurt. We’re representing the Castleford town and club and what we’re dishing up lately isn’t good enough, but I’m confident we can make those changes,” he added.
