Thornhill Trojans celebrate 30th anniversary of big Challenge Cup tie

THE majority of the players who represented Thornhill Trojans in the Challenge Cup in 1995 regrouped to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the occasion.

The Heavy Woollen side reached the third round for the first time that year and met Hull KR on Tuesday, January 25, the game having been postponed the previous Sunday because of a waterlogged pitch at Craven Park.

The Robins won 58-6 before a 1,143 crowd. Andy Smith scored the Dewsbury outfit’s try and Richard Bainton kicked their goal.

Gary Brown claimed four tries for Hull KR, Paul Fletcher bagged a brace and Mike Fletcher contributed a try and nine goals. Mick Coult, Adam Charlesworth and David Plange also crossed.

Eleven of the Trojans’ 15 men were present at the reunion.
