Tigers inflict worst night of Wigan coach Shaun Wane’s career

Castleford Tigers got earned their first points of the Super League season in spectacular fashion tonight at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle, when they hammered Wigan Warriors 42-14 with a superb show of Rugby League, scoring seven converted tries and forcing Wigan coach Shaun Wane to admit that it was the worst night of his coaching career.

The Tigers scored three tries in the first 14 minutes, including two from winger Justin Carney and they had other tries from James Clare on the other wing, fullback Luke Dorn, Liam Finn, Oliver Holmes and captain Michael Shenton.

Wigan scored two tries by Josh Charnley, with a late consolation effort by Matty Smith. But they were outplayed in all departments by the Tigers, with halfback Luke Gale having an outstanding game and Dorn, in his first game of the season, scoring a stunning try that saw him run through the Wigan defence, and creating the Tigers’ final try for Shenton.

A full report and photos from this game will feature in Monday’s edition of Rugby League Express.
