Tyrer suffers season-ending injury

Halifax goalkicker Steve Tyrer will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious arm injury.

Tyrer, who this year equalled the club’s record for most points scored in a game and also surpassed 1,000 points for the club, suffered the injury in Halifax’s defeat to Featherstone on Sunday, a loss severely damaged their top four hopes.

The only way they can make the four is if they defeat second-placed London and Batley lose to Swinton.

And they will have to do it without the former Widnes and St Helens centre, after he confirmed he will miss the remainder of the season on Twitter.

The setback could prompt head coach Richard Marshall to recall Sam Smeaton, who is currently on loan at York.
