Villagers to take on Townies

ALL players, new and old, have been invited to take part in a `Villagers v Townies’ game organised by Methley Royals over the Christmas period.

The match will be played at Savile Park, Methley, on Monday 28 December (noon), followed by a festive bash at the Royals’ Top Club base.

Organiser Phil Hodgson said: “There’s already been a lot of interest in the event, in fact it’s taking on the feeling of a reunion as much as anything else.

“We’ve had quite a few lads at the Royals since we were formed eight years ago, and it’s been good to hear from blokes who have given us grand service (and, admittedly, some who maybe didn’t, but that’s another story).

“It will be a light-hearted run-out which should help blow away the Christmas cobwebs – even if those who hail from outside the village may feel they have something to prove against the resident players, and vice versa. And it will be a useful run-out for the present Royals players ahead of our return to Pennine League action, after the festive break, on Saturday 2 January.”
