Wakefield announce additional warm-up match

Wakefield Wildcats have agreed to play touring side Newcastle Yowies.

Brian Smith’s side shall take on the Yowies at Belle Vue on Friday 29 January (7.30 ko), nine days before their opening Super League fixture against Widnes Vikings.

The Yowies were established just over 20 years ago in Newcastle, New South Wales.

They were set up to encourage and provide indigenous people the opportunity to participate in sport and they support a variety of sports, from Rugby League, touch rugby, cricket, golf and netball.

The Rugby League team has competed in various tournaments in Australia over the years and played exhibition matches, and a number of high-profile NRL players have represented them.

Following their victory over Leeds Rhinos on Boxing Day, Wakefield now have three remaining pre-season games, starting with a trip to Featherstone this Sunday before taking on Super League rivals Castleford on 24 January.
