Warrington outclass Widnes in festive friendly

Kurt Gidley showed Warrington the class they have bought for 2016 with a masterclass to inspire the Wolves to victory in their opening pre-season friendly of the new season.

The Aussie combined superbly with young half-back Declan Patton throughout the 55 minutes he was on the field as Warrington charged into a 30-0 half-time lead they never once looked like losing.

Gidley oozed class throughout, popping up all over the pitch and laying on a number of tries – possessing the look of a man who has been playing in Super League for years.

The Wolves were out of sight by half-time, after tries from Toby King, a brace from Brad Dwyer and one for Tom Lineham – which came from an incredible kick via the boot of Gidley – were amongst the scores in a completely one-way half of action.

The second-half was a much more subdued affair – especially after Gidley was withdrawn – but the Wolves did score two more tries through Jack Johnson and Harvey Livett.
