WARRINGTON WOLVES’ new assistant coach Matt Drinkwater has been impressed by what he has seen so far since joining from Salford Red Devils.
Drinkwater was confirmed as the latest member of Ged Ginty’s backroom staff last week and has high hopes that the Wolves can step up their performances this year and become more competitive with the big four teams in the Women’s Super League – York, St Helens, Leeds and Wigan.
“I had three great years at Salford and we were quite successful,” said Drinkwater, who first joined the Red Devils in 2022.
“But I am a Warrington lad so this is a bit of a dream come true to get offered this position.
“The standard the girls are at – their fitness and speed – is what has impressed me most and I just want the girls to develop now and move on from where they were last year.
“They had a tough time last season and we want to put that behind us and move forward and compete.
“We know it’s a difficult league with the big four in there, but we need to make sure we are competing with the other teams and make sure we can develop and move up the league.”
