Warrington Wolves have extended the contracts of six young, British players securing home-grown talent for many seasons to come.
Gene Ormsby and Anthony England have agreed contract extensions keeping them at the club until November 2016.
Twins Rhys and Ben Evans, and James Laithwaite have penned new contracts until November 2017. Young forward George King has also agreed a full-time contract with the club until the end of 2016.
The ongoing support from SquadBuilder in developing these young, home-grown players has been invaluable and continues to strengthen the squad from within.
Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said on these contract extensions: “All six have shown what capabilities they’ve got and have been performing consistently well in recent times. We are delighted to be securing their services for an extended period and feel that they will all continue to develop in the manner in which they already have in the time they’ve been with us. I am delighted for us to be continuing to develop these players, and others, and that we are once again showing stability within the group as that’s one of the strengths of our club.”
Winger Gene Ormsby, 21, made his Super League debut back in February this year and has cemented his place in the side with 15 appearances to date notching up 11 tries. A Squadbuilder-supported player, Ormsby has progressed through the academy system and on the back of his performances earned his place in the first-team training squad, making his mark this season.
Anthony England, 27, made the step-up from the Championship to Super League in the off-season. Having made the transition to the full-time league he is now finding his feet and having an impact down the middle alongside fellow Championship forward Chris Hill.
Since making the move up from Bridgend, brothers Rhys and Ben Evans have become names within Rugby League, progressing through the academy ranks before breaking into the first team squad. Rhys made his debut back in 2010 but with brother Ben only making his Warrington start this is the first season that we’ve seen the pair together on the team sheet. At just 21 years old the brothers have also represented Wales at international level most recently as part of the Rugby League World Cup 2013 squad.
Second rower George King, 19, made his Super League debut against Bradford Bulls at the weekend. He played his amateur rugby at Meltham All Blacks alongside younger brother Toby, and joined the Wolves from Huddersfield Academy ahead of the current season. He was promoted into the first-team training squad earlier this year having immediately impressed within the academy ranks and has now earned a full-time contract.
