Webster left to rue defence yet again

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach James Webster admits his team are struggling to defend at the moment – after their eleventh successive Super League defeat left them rooted to the bottom of the table.

The 54-6 defeat was the eighth in succession where Wakefield have shipped 40 points or more, and although Webster remained bullish after the game, he admits their defence is a “big” problem.

He said: “In parts we competed alright, but in others we were absolutely miles off. We created lots of chances but came up with nothing, then they went the length of the field.

“Add to that a team who is struggling to defend it makes it even harder for us. We were in the game for a while but didnt come up with a good enough defensive effort for a long period of time.

“It’s been a ten-week problem and it’s a big one. Teams hang in there against us then we concede points.

“We’ve trained really well, but the problem isn’t training, it’s the way we’ve defended in games.”
