Westwood blow for Warrington

Warrington Wolves will be without Ben Westwood for four to five weeks after it was confirmed he requires surgery.

The experienced England international has an issue in his ankle that needs sorting immediately. A decision was made to address the issue with Westwood serving a one-game suspension this week anyway.

“He’s got a little floating bone in his ankle so will have an operation on Wednesday on that,” Smith told PA Sport.

“He’ll be out for the best part of a month, so we lose one but hopefully welcome back three this week.”

Smith is hopeful that Stefan Ratchford, Mitchell Dodds and Ben Evans will all be in contention to return for Friday’s match against Wakefield after playing for the club’s reserves last week.
