Wigan back to winning ways against Wildcats

Anthony Gelling scored a hat-trick of tries tonight for Wigan Warriors against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats as the Warriors coasted to a convincing 52-10 victory, scoring nine tries in all.

Against the injury-hit Wildcats it all looked too easy in the first half, as the Warriors established an invincible 26-4 lead at the interval with tries by Liam Farrell, Tony Clubb, Dominic Manfredi and Gelling, with Matty Smith converting them all and adding a penalty.

Wakefield had replied with a try by wingman Chris Riley, and although they never gave up the struggle they lacked the firepower to seriously trouble their hosts, although Paul McShane scored an opportunist try shortly after Manfredi has scored his second.

The Warriors went on to score further tries through Lee Mossop and Farrell’s second, before Gelling added a double for his hat-trick, as the Warriors look ahead to a sterner test in their Good Friday clash against St Helens at the DW Stadium.
