Wigan Warriors winger Dom Manfredi will be out for around a month with an ankle injury he sustained in Friday’s win over Castleford Tigers.
Manfredi has been in prolific form, with 12 tries in his last eight matches, keeping England winger Josh Charnley out of the Wigan team.
Charnley lost his place in the Warriors side after damaging his ankle against Hull FC in March and was unable to reclaim it due to the form of young wingers Manfredi and Joe Burgess.
But Manfredi’s injury is set to give Charnley a recall for Friday’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup-tie against Hull KR.
“Dom will be out for about four weeks,” Wigan coach Shaun Wane said. “I’ll know more in a couple of weeks when the swelling has gone down.
“It’s sad for him but Josh Charnley is jumping all over the place. He knows he’s a bit lucky to get in but he’s going to have to take his chance.
“Dom is under pressure now to get it back from Josh and I love that competition. I’ve been so impressed with Dom’s attitude, he’s been doing exactly what I wanted him to and I want Josh to do the same or else I’ll make another change.”
