Woodcock leads by example

Michelle Woodcock of Wigan St Jude’s is the Women’s Rugby League’s Peak Sports Nutrition Player of the Month for January.

Her coach John Davenport, who will be in charge of the Lancashire side that will take on Yorkshire at Hunslet Hawks’ South Leeds Stadium on Sunday (14 February) said: “Michelle is 35, but it’s like having a breath of fresh air in the team.

“She is always at training, sometimes with her kids in tow, but she’s always committed.

“Michelle is a great role model to the younger players, which is hence why we made her skipper.

“She is always pushing for attendance at training and games, which you can see on the Facebook page for Lancashire – and she has not been selected yet.”

He added: “She is what each team needs, and is a great advert for the Women’s game.

“Michelle even planned gym sessions in her own time to keep the girls together, and is an ideal choice as Player of the Month, for her commitment, drive and enthusiasm. It’s a pleasure having her at the club.”
