Workington hope to keep Gee

Workington coach Phil Veivers is hoping to secure an extension to forward Matty Gee’s loan before Thursday’s deadline for next weekend.

That would allow the Salford youngster – who impressed in his first month with Town – to feature against Sheffield.

Veivers said: “We’re in the process of trying to work out a deal.

“He’s been good since he’s arrived – I think he’s enjoyed himself here and he’s added to our performances.”

Veivers is hoping his side replicates their second half performance at Halifax when they face Sheffield, as their Jekyll and Hyde performances continue.

He said: “The first half was Workington 2016.

“We identified a few issues at half-time and told a few home truths.

“We then went out, aimed up, and were more like the Workington Town from the back end of 2015.

“Both years I’ve been at the club we’ve been slow starters and come home strongly – I’m hoping that’s the same this year.”

Veivers will check on centre Jason Mossop this week after he pulled his hamstring at Halifax, but expects to have a near fully fit squad to choose from this week.
