YORK KNIGHTS utility James Cunningham has confirmed his retirement after two seasons at the club.
The 30-year-old former Hull FC, London Broncos, Toronto Wolfpack, Huddersfield Giants and Toulouse Olympique player has operated at halfback, hooker and loose-forward over 30 appearances.
His switch to the minster city marked a reunion with then-coach Andrew Henderson, under whom he had played in the capital.
Cunningham was out of contract, and said via Instagram: “I’ve finally hung up my boots, 25 years after my first training session.
“I’m grateful for all that the game has brought me, a career, great pals and memories.
“I couldn’t have done it without my family, especially my mum and dad. I know it’s cliché, but thanks for all the Sunday-morning support and for never letting me miss a session.”
Mark Applegarth’s Knights have a warm-up game at Hunslet on Sunday.
