Young halfback out to seize ‘big opportunity’ at Leeds Rhinos

YOUNG halfback Tally Bryer hopes to seize the “big opportunity” in front of her at Leeds.

The 20-year-old has signed for the Rhinos from relegated Featherstone following a successful trial period with the club.

Bryer made 15 appearances last season for Rovers, scoring one try and 21 goals as they failed to win a league fixture.

That was her second season at the club, following a year with Castleford in 2022 after she signed from her first club Cutsyke.

Bryer has also been part of the England Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme, for teens considered to have the potential to represent England internationally.

Now she joins a Leeds side with a halfback vacancy following the departure of last season’s first-choice, Caitlin Casey, to St Helens.

“It’s amazing to have signed for the club, and the girls have been really welcoming,” said Bryer.

“It’s been a tough few weeks in pre-season so far, but the coaches have been great and I have been working hard on the field but also off it too and are trying to get those one-percenters and pushing to improve for the start of the season.

“Everyone has a positive mindset in the team and that is motivating us in pre-season and we are just trying to be the best version of ourselves we can be.

“This year is important for me; it’s a big opportunity and I am ready to get the season started.”

Alongside playing for Leeds, Bryer will continue her studies at Sheffield Hallam University.

“I’m doing a teaching degree and enjoying that too,” she added.

“I try to do my studies outside of rugby and when I’m in rugby I can put my mind fully into that.”

Leon Crick, Leeds’ interim head coach, said Bryer had made a strong impression while on trial.

“Tally had a great season with Featherstone last year and we were delighted that she agreed to come on trial with us,” said Crick.

“She has impressed us with her attitude and commitment and it was soon clear that she would fit into our squad.

“She is a young, talented player who I think will thrive in our team and I am excited to see how she develops over the next few seasons.”
