I would agree, 3.40 pace is far too fast - thats the pace for a 19.40 5k.

 

Most runners do set off too fast, start slow and you will be able to go for much longer, when you are starting out running and want to lose weight its all about bulding time on your feet - dont worry about pace that can come much later

 

If you can run 5k, aim for 10k, run as many times a week as you can, running once will just about mantian some fitness, 2 or 3 runs and you will start to see some real improvements

 

Park runs area great idea also, enjoy your running
