I was at Old Trafford when the Aussies scored that last second try against us, was it Meninga who made the break and nudged Gibson out of the way.

ย I canโ€™t remember the year but it was sickening losing against them. I enjoyed the day as a whole though, โ€œEre We Go, Ere We Go, Ere We Goโ€.ย

Ricky Stuart made the break and Meninga barged Gibson out of the way before finishing it off

I was torn between the Manly game at Central Park, the first ever game I attended (the Wigan Saints Lancashire Cup final) and the '85 Challenge Cup final.

I think the Manly game was a more memorable event, a night game always provides a better atmosphere and that night was electric.

But even though Wigan Manly was a great game, the combination of a packed sunlit Wembley and the wonderful game full of great tries, the 85 game wins overall as the best game I have ever seen.

As an added bonus, I was 15 at the time and on the train I sat across from two girls in their early 20's I guess wearing low cut catsuits.ย  That memory is etched in my mind... it was like something out of Charlie's Angels.

I try not to think about the fact those girls will be I their 60's now.

I was at the Manly game too and I fully understand why a Wigan fan would choose it, it was magical. As someone neither from Wigan or a Wigan supporter, I chose the 1985 final because, to me, it literally had everything as a game, add to that my first Wembley visit as an 18 year old away in London with his club mates. Unbeatableย

    1985 Challenge Cup final.

Probably mine too, especially so given that it was my first time at Challenge Cup Final.

The biggest emotional rollercoaster ride was the 2013 world cup semi final, it probably would've been my top choice if we'd won, unless of course we'd went on to win the finalย

I have noticed that on my clubs Facebook page whenever a game is due to be played there are several adverts from people saying you can watch the game live via an internet link. They say its for free. When you try to use the link you have to register you Bank Card detais etc. I am of the opinion that its just a scam to get you to sign up and take your money.

I am not aware that the National conference games are broadcast live other than by the BBC and the Sportsman from time to time. If I am totaly wrong about this please let me know.

I know that games are recorded and subsequently put on You Tube by some clubs but do not think any are available live over the internet.ย

I am posting this to try and stop anyone wasting their money on a non existant link if its a scam.ย

Some clubs broadcast their matches on the Veo app, its free to download and, from memory you have to follow the club you want to watch. The camera follows the ball and sometimes is a little behind play, so it's not television quality but it's better than missing the game. You don't have to watch live either.

  5. So far only seen Dead Men Walking this year, but have a few lined up starting with SLF next week. In summer, I've got North West Calling, Green Day, Mayhem @ Mick's and Rebellion then Morecambe Punk Festival in November. Like to try and get at least one per month, so need to sort a few outย

I don't particularly have a problem with the way the game is played.ย  I just find it amusing that as a sport we have so may laws that we have decided to just ignore.

Being honest, I never knew it was still a law until quite recently

  7. I don't think I've ever seen a deliberate knock on given either when watching or playing.

Personally I have no issues with a deliberate knock on as a defensive tactic, as on a overlap the advantages lie with the attacking team, if they fail to convert that advantage then they haven't earned the score.

Just a word of advice. NEVER rely on your information being available on the BBC web site. I dont think they know that the NCL even exists.

Some very close games in the opening week. Why were two game in the Pemier Division not played ?

    ย

Got told Heworth v Kells was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch

But the ref was from wigan for a game in wigan featuring wigan...........for a world club final.........you see how that doesn't look great?

Playing devils advocate....if you want a try awarded where there's loads of players in the way.......the ref can just send it up as a try and it won't get overturned unless there's obvious proof to the contrary on video..... and vice versa.

It's a stupid rule........ if the ref isn't sure enough to award a try then the video ref should decide..........it should NOT go up to video ref as a 'Try' or 'No try'.........In other words if the ref isn't sure and video evidence isn't there it should never be a try.........Ref's can always just award a try that is debatable straight away based on what they see.......but this way you'd avoid a try being given where there's zero video evidence for it as was the case with Wardle.

Last year's match v St Helens was referred by Ashley Klein. According to Wikipedia, Klein is the son of John Klein, a former Penrith player.

During the match Klein gave a dubious forward pass that Saints would have scored from, he ruled out a drop goal for a dubious obstruction and he gave a Penrith try when Welsby was shouldered from clearing the ball by a non scoring player.ย

You see how that doesn't look great?

The difference was, Saints were able to overcome decisions that went against them. Penrith weren't, and their fans have been moaning ever sinceย

In many cases, mediocre/average players tend to be better coaches, because they have had to work and think so much harder about the game to make it as players. The naturally gifted stars often struggle to communicate what it is that makes them good, and often become frustrated by that.

In Football, Alex Ferguson and Arsรจne Wenger both had pretty undistinguished playing careers, for instance.

Once saw an interview with Martin O'Neil where he made that very point. He compared himself to John Robertson, who was a very gifted natural player, but he himself had to strive to be the best he could be and constantly think of ways to improve himself

    From the Sydney Morning Herald

In this fixture, you need a lot to go your way:ย Letโ€™s get the most important thing out of the way: Wigan were absolutely sensational and nothing should detract from what was a super performance on a night of high emotion at the DW Stadium. But if youโ€™re Penrith, youโ€™re starting to see why you need a lot to go your way to win this game. The crowd is against you. The conditions are foreign (it was barely four degrees at kick-off). Your opposition has already started their season. The international rules used are tricky. And then there are one or two refereeing/video refereeing decisions which might not fall your way. Letโ€™s put aside Taylan Mayโ€™s no try call in the last second and concentrate on Wigan centre Jake Wardleโ€™s second-half try, the only score of the second half, which proved to be the matchwinner. Itโ€™s hard to see how the ball got to the line, and why referee Liam Moore sent it upstairs on the field as a try. โ€œI didnโ€™t see the ball over the line on that one,โ€ Panthers coach Ivan Cleary said. But as Cleeary said, Wigan executed better - and for that no one should begrudge them this win.

Interesting article. Apart from International Rules, which are 'tricky' for both sides, Penrith had none of those issues to contend with last year, yet still didn't win

what is his playing background please?

Think he only played at amateur level. Sam Tomkins said on sky last night that he coached at Wigan St Pats before going to Wigan.

Tomkins also said that earlier in the week, all the players had been to a funeral, Liam Marshalls mother I think, and Matty Peet got them all together and told them that this would be the most important thing they do this week, supporting one of their own when he needed it. What a man
