  1. Likely to upset a few people here... Have been thinking long and hard about developing the League to allow for expansion in the future and have come up with a conference system similar to that in the NFL. Before you give up reading on... please just read the rest... 😊 "The East" Hull FC, Hull KR, Castleford, Featherstone, Wakefield "Yorkshire" Leeds, Huddersfield, Halifax, Bradford, York "Lancashire" St Helens, Wigan, Leigh, Salford, Swinton "The West" Warrington, Widnes, Workington, Whitehaven, Barrow "Expansion" Catalans, Toulouse, Toronto, London, New York (?) This idea ensures that local derbies are contested yearly and without fail and also with a Home and Away same conference, Home only against 2 Conferences, and Away only against the other 2 Conferences ensures all teams play everyone - total 28 games. Future Expansion would be to develop French Rugby League, as well as North American Rugby League, and could look like: "France" Catalans, Toulouse, AS Carcasonne, Limoux Grizzlies, Lezignan The bottom team could face a play-off with the French Elite 1 Champions "North America" Toronto, New York, Hamilton, Boston, Chicago The bottom team could face a play-off with the Champions of a US/Canada RL "UK and Ireland" London Broncos, London Skolars, Ireland, Wales, Scotland In case you think I have forgotten about the rest... The British Rugby Championship Rochdale, Oldham, Batley, Dewsbury Hunslet, Keighley, Sheffield, Doncaster Newcastle, Coventry Hemel, Skolars, Crusaders, Raiders Please go gentle with me with your responses... 😘
  2. Super League Super 8s: All four play off places clinched by St Helens, Wigan, Castleford and Warrington however second place and third place are still potentially up for grabs. Wigan probably need just a point from their two games with Huddersfield (a) and Hull (h) to claim second and a home game in the playoffs. If they slip up twice though then Castleford can take second with wins against Wakefield (h) and St Helens (a). Should Castleford lose both their games then Warrington could snatch third place with two wins when they play St Helens (h) and Wakefield (a). Next post: The Qualifiers Super 8s
  3. I must admit I do like everything that Elstone has said so far and completely agree with his views on youth development. It is a joke that some top flight clubs dont have academy teams and wont even run a reserve competition. ROBERT Elstone has threatened Super League clubs they may be kicked out if they do not have commitment to youth development.
  4. After 9 rounds of 2018 the average attendance figures: Leeds 15,318 : +4% (4 games) St Helens 13,145 : +20% (4 games) Hull FC 11,408 : +0% (4 games) Warrington 11,370 : +12% (5 games) Wigan 11,209 : -18% (5 games) Hull KR 8,785 : n/a (4 games) Castleford 7,708 : -12% (4 games) Catalans 7,551 : -12% (5 games) Huddersfield 5,794 : -1% (4 games) Widnes 5,351 : -4% (6 games) Wakefield 5,112 -3% (3 games) Salford 3,421 : -12% (4 games) Total 8,854 : +0% Wigan looks bad but they haven't been hosting the teams to get bigger crowds in. They've had Hull FC, Widnes, Wakey, Hudds & Hull KR. When Saints, Leeds and Warrington come, I'm sure that will improve. Saints were helped by recently hosting Wigan so at this early stage of the season, the figures are indicators only. A full season will ultimately tell the story. However, even now Salford's tally is looking somewhat forlorn. Overall, considering the weather, not too bad. (Hull KR are up nearly 40% on Leigh, the team they replaced).

    Wolfpack fans' impressions of RL

I'm guessing most Toronto fans are new to rugby league, I don't know how many are on here but after 6-7 months what do you think of RL? Do you watch Super League, NRL, USARL? Looking forward to World Cup (2017 and 2025)? Started playing league?
  12. Has RL missed a trick in an era of great competition for tv sporting rights by handing exclusivity to Sky for live coverage of its flagship competition? I am coming around to the idea that Koukash was right in his criticisms of giving Sky such a long deal in exchange for an upfront payment to each club of £300k. I notice that the Football League has rejected the opportunity to auto-renew its contract with Sky in favour of sounding out other bidders with some media commentators linking BT Sport to a huge bid. Perhaps next time around offering a series of live (Super League/Championship) packages might prove more lucrative.
  13. Recently heard Cas chief exec Steve Gill on radio Yorkshire saying Cas don't run a reserve team because of the lack of fixtures and they don't want to take players away from clubs like Fryston and Lock Lane just to fill a shirt. Why don't SL and Championship teams enter reserve teams into the NCL? Guaranteed a fixture every week and teams like Cas could have a dual reg type agreement with local clubs. Its done in football for example in Spain Barcelona and Real Madrid both have a B team in La Liga 2 and there was talk of clubs in England doing it. Also don't some NRL teams have a reserve team in NSW and Queensland Cup?
  14. Read 'Fifth and Last' towards the bottom It says that the RFL are considering changing Magic Weekend to being double headers at three different smaller venues across the midlands/north/north east of the country, on the same weekend. Personally I think this is a bad idea due to these reasons: 1. To kill an established event to try something else. It's taken ages to build up the Magic Weekend into a big event with impressive attendances and atmosphere. 2. They will lose the people who go for the whole weekend every year - who would no longer be able to if it is spread around the country. I happen to be one of those, who enjoys the festival feel and watches all the matches. 3. Groups won't go unless they support the teams on show. My wife and I support different teams, as do my friends and family who come with us, so if they're spread all over the country bang goes that trip. 4. It'll make the event look smaller. Three matches with 15-20,000 (if they're lucky*) at different venues won't look as impressive as 26-40,000 across two days - with a total of what should build to more than 70,000. *away followings struggle enough to travel for a knockout cup semi-final to reach Wembley, why would they suddenly jump at playing a league match elsewhere unless there's a uniqueness about the event? Why not keep Magic and add some double headers at three different venues to Magic, if they want to spread the appeal?
  15. Very interesting this. I can see both points of view. On the one hand, the sight of someone deliberately throwing the ball at a player to get a penalty is very unsightly, and not in the spirit of the game. On the other, the player should not be there, should have cleared the ruck, and is offside. What do we think?
  16. Put our heads above the parapet and did our predictions for Total RL today. I put Catalans 6th... Be kind.
  17. The NRL is the best Rugby League comp in the world. Super League is second. But what is the next best - Championship, NSW Cup, Qld Cup?
  19. Received this from Swinton Lions this morning..... Swinton V Dewsbury The time has come..... The launch of the new Rugby League season is upon us and one of the oldest clubs in rugby league, Swinton Lions, will start its historic150th campaign in the Championship up against the big boys such as Leigh Centurions and Bradford Bulls. After a fantastic recruitment campaign in the off season, recruiting several young, hungry players with Super League experience, Sunday 7th at the A J Bell Stadium will provide the fantastic background for the Lions return to the big time. With no Super League game taking place in the North West on Sunday, the Club thought it would be great for all local Super League fans to share in the launch of such a historic season for the Lions and we are offering for this game entry price of just £10 for any season ticket holder of local clubs to attend the game at 3pm this Sunday. Just ring 08448448400 now to book your tickets and get behind the Lions on such a great day for the Club OR alternatively turn up on Sunday with proof of your season ticket elsewhere and take advantage of this great offer Any further questions, give me a shout Steve Wild at And whether you a Wolf, a Devil, a Warrior or a Saint, all the best for you and your team for the 2016 season
  20. Hi all, I am a third year university student conducting research for my dissertation titled; Has the creation of Super League made Rugby League more popular? I have attached the below link to a short questionnaire which aims to get a fans point of view. The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete and all data collected will be held anonymously and securely. Any personal details will be destroyed upon completion. If you could fill one in then it would help me greatly. Thanks in advance Mick
  21. Regular readers of will have seen one of our team, Joe Whitley, have a go at picking his team of 2014 so far with a Dream Team article. Amazingly, Joe managed to put together a team of 13 players that didn't feature any overseas talent whatsoever. However, like any self-respecting Rugby League fan, I had a few issues with Joe's side and have a 13 in mind of my own. Therefore, I've retailliated with my alternative Super League Dream Team so far in 2014. Be warned, there are a fair few overseas players in there.. I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on my side, and who I should/shouldn't have included in it!
