1895 Cup Round up

A golden point field goal from Louis Jouffret helped Batley Bulldogs reach the semi-finals of the 1895 Cup with a 17-16 win over York City Knights.

The Bulldogs had been 16-10 in front thanks to tries from Jouffret, Sam Wood and Jonny Campbell but a try for Will Jubb and Connor Robinson’s kicking exploits helped level the game for York and send it to golden point. Thankfully for Batley, Jouffret was on hand to win it for the Bulldogs.

Elsewhere, Martyn Ridyard was a similar hero for Leigh Centurions who edged out Barrow Raiders 19-18 with a late penalty and field goal for Ridyard.

Sheffield scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to avoid a shock defeat to Doncaster at Featherstone’s LD Nutrition Stadium. The Dons were 28-12 in front but tries for Ryan Millar, Jason Crookes and a brace for Anthony Thackeray helped spare the Eagles’ blushes against lower-league opposition.

Meanwhile, Widnes Vikings eased their way into the semi-finals with a 54-6 win over Dewsbury Rams with Anthony Gelling and Lloyd Roby both scoring hat-tricks for the home side.
