BARLA Emerging Young Lions triumph in Spain

The BARLA Emerging Young Lions have beaten the Spanish Under-21s side 60-18 in the picturesque town of Torrent.

The game kicked off with the Young Lions dominant, scoring three unanswered tries by Joe Willock (Castleford Lock Lane), Jordan O’Leary (Seaton Rangers) and Mathew Johnston (Blackbrook Royals). Two of the three tries were converted by Willock. After the impressive start by the Lions the young Spaniards started to come to terms with the pace of the game and after some impressive hands the elusive Danny Garcia (Woolston Rovers) touched down and added to the points with his own conversion.

Willock then converted his own try and it was followed by a try for Jack McConachie (Rochdale Mayfield) to give a half-time score of 26-6. Will Johnson (Skirlaugh) scored in the corner after 50 minutes, with an unsuccessful conversion and the Lions performed a well-executed set piece resulting in a try by Caden Wilkinson (Dewsbury Moor) with a conversion from Dean Rooney (Wath Brow Hornets). The Spaniards replied with two tries, both converted by Garcia, bringing the score to 36-18. But the Lions stepped up a gear in the last 15 minutes and scored four unanswered tries through Jordan O’Leary (Seaton), Will Johnson (Skirlaugh), Jack Townend (Featherstone Lions) and Karl Hunt (Clockface Miners). Willock converted them all, which brought the final score to 60-18.
