Halifax release Rikki Sheriffe

Halifax RLFC have released Rikki Sheriffe, with the experienced threequarter expected to join Championship One side Keighley on a permanent deal.

Sheriffe, who first played for Halifax in 2003 and is now in his fifth spell as a player, had been on loan at Cougar Park, where his younger brothers Jess and Jode also play, until two weeks ago.

He returned to feature in the Championship win over Workington and played centre in last Friday’s Challenge Cup loss at Belle Vue.

But Sheriffe, who helped coach Fax’s reserve side in 2014 before ending a 15-month retirement as a player at Christmas, was keen to return to Cougar Park and Halifax have now agreed to release him permanently.

“We’d like to wish Rikki all the best for the future,” said Fax director Ian Croad.

“He’s got a good offer to join a Championship One club and we didn’t feel we could stand in his way.”
