Barrow Raiders heal ‘broken bodies’ in welcome break

BARROW RAIDERS coach Amanda Wilkinson believes the recent two-week break from games came at a good time for her players.

The Raiders went into it on the back of a 16-10 home win over Leigh and will return to action against Leeds tomorrow (Sunday).

“People talk about preparing teams and doing all the things with ball in hand, training, strength and everything else, but recovery is the most important one for me,” said Wilkinson.

“I was ready for a break after back-to-back weeks of rugby and the girls needed it too.

“We had a lot of broken bodies against Leigh, and there were some girls who probably shouldn’t have been out there. Some of them even did 80 minutes, so we needed to recover a bit.

“They were given a training plan to work on, but I wanted them to enjoy some time out and a night sat in front of the television rather than getting in their car to drive to training.

“A break from the game and each other and time with family and friends will have done them good.”
