Wayne Bennett has confirmed his interest in the England job.
It is understood that Bennett has already been approached by RFL hierarchy to replace current coach Steve McNamara.
Bennett recently applied for the job of Australia coach but was unsuccessful. At the tine, Bennett made it clear that he would still like to be involved in more World Cups.
An RFL statement said that the process of reviewing the job, most recently taken by Steve McNamara, would be ‘completed in February’, however speaking to the Brisbane Courier Mail, Bennett said: “It may be before then.
“If someone picks up the phone in the next week, the next couple of days. I have to find out what I want to do and how they see me involved.
“I’ve told the Broncos what I’m doing and the people who matter are across it – they are totally supportive of it, as they were of me when I applied for the Australian coaching job.
“We haven’t finalised the role. I’ve been offered some opportunities.”
Bennett is expected in England in the upcoming weeks to coach Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Series.
