Canberra fullback handed suspended sentence over assault charges

Canberra fullback Jack Wighton has received a two-month suspended jail sentence and a A$3,500 fine for a drunken assault at a nightclub earlier in 2018.

Wighton pleaded guilty to five counts of assault and one of public urination back in June while he was banned for 10 games and fined A$30,000 by the NRL meaning he missed the rest of Canberra’s games in 2018.

“I’d also like to take the opportunity to apologise to the victims of the incident for any pain I may have caused them and their families,” Wighton read after receiving his sentence.
