Castleford confirm Massey needs surgery

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has confirmed that key forward Nathan Massey is set for a spell on the sidelines after revealing he needs surgery on his wrist.

Massey has only missed five Super League games this year in what has been a standout year for the local forward, but Powell has confirmed that after battling on through the pain barrier lately, Massey has now got to the point where surgery is the only option.

“He’s having a scan, but he definitely needs an operation – it’s a question of whether it’s on one or two wrists,” said coach Daryl Powell.

“It’s an ongoing problem and he’s been having painkillers for the last couple of months but it’s got to the point when he’s struggling even with painkillers, so the situation needs resolving quickly.

“His other wrist locked up last week and he couldn’t tackle anybody.”
