Castleford Tigers swoop for former Wigan Warriors forward

CASTLEFORD TIGERS have signed former Wigan Warriors prop Ramon Silva from Barrow Raiders on a deal until the end of next season.

Silva never made a senior appearance for Wigan but returns to Super League after just over a year with Barrow, where he impressed across 24 appearances.

He had joined the Warriors from London Broncos after coming through the capital club’s academy.

Castleford’s statement confirming their signing suggested that the 23-year-old would not be an immediate part of their first-team plans.

“Silva comes in to further his development at a Super League club alongside our wider development players, with a view to them all fulfilling their potential and becoming regular first-team players in future seasons,” they said.

However, Barrow coach Paul Crarey believes that the Sao Paulo-born forward has the potential and attitude to make the Super League grade.

“Although it’s disappointing to lose a player of Ramon’s quality, it’s also fantastic for us as coaches to see lads progress into the Super League arena,” said Crarey.

“Since he joined the club, we as coaching staff have been more than happy to help him out, doing extras on non-training nights.

“Ramon has been like a sponge in his quest to be the best he can be, and it’s been a pleasure to coach him and help him realise his dream of full-time rugby.

“We all wish him all the very best and look forward to watching him in Super League.”
