Centurions move on Sammut

LEIGH CENTURIONS are among the clubs looking to sign Wigan halfback Jarrod Sammut for 2020.
Up to three Championship clubs are understood to have expressed an interest in the experienced playmaker.
Sammut joined Wigan from London Broncos at this time last year, but has seen his opportunities at the Warriors limited.
With Jackson Hastings joining Adrian Lam’s squad as a replacement for Canberra-bound George Williams, Sammut is again likely to have a back-up role at the Super League club.
The Centurions look his most likely destination and are understood to have held talks with the 32-year-old, although a deal had not been finalised at the weekend.
Leigh are also set to take Wigan pair Josh Woods and Craig Mullen on season-long loans.
Last week coach John Duffy secured the expected signing of London prop Mark Ioane, plus two club favourites for 2020 in Gregg McNally and Martyn Ridyard.
Duffy said: “Mark is a player I have always admired.
“He did really well at London and has been one of their stand-out players over the last few years.
“We were lucky to have the chance to bring him here and he’s raring to go.
“Mark will be able to get us on the front foot in games and he also has a ruthless streak in his defence.
“Last season, Gregg was our top try scorer, so hopefully he can take that kind of form into next season and have a good year.
“Gregg is keen secure his long-term future after he stops playing, so in partnership with Leigh College we’ve come up with a plan for him to coach their team and hopefully oversee a link between us, helping our young players.
“It was great for the club when Martyn came back last year, especially as he’s a Leigh lad.
“I coached him for a season at Featherstone, so I was pleased to have him back on board.
“As a Leigh lad, he knows where he needs to improve on last year and it will be a big year for him, as it’s also his Testimonial season.
“I’m sure the supporters and everybody involved in the club will back his events next year and make it a year to remember for both Martyn and the club.”
