A definitive schedule for the Championship and League 1 seasons will be determined before Christmas.
League Express can reveal clubs will meet on December 18th to nail down the 2021 calendar.
Clubs have been left to consider numerous proposals for how the schedule will look next year.
Almost a certainty is that the season will start with 1895 Cup and Challenge Cup fixtures during March, when fans are still not expected to be allowed into stadiums. Clubs don’t normally budget for Cup games.
One proposal saw an 1895 Cup round to be played on the weekend of March 20/21st, followed by the Challenge Cup and then the opening league game on Good Friday. However, there is thought to be an appetite from some clubs to begin the season earlier than that.
It’s also understood that Challenge Cup action will take place on the weekend of March 27th/28th.
Otherwise, proposals are still in the air heading into next week’s meeting, by which time it will be known which teams will be participating in both leagues, with a decision on promotion by a Championship club to Super League set to be made on 18 December, while a decision on which club will be promoted from League 1 to the Championship is expected to be made this Thursday, 10 December.
