Three Championship players out of contract this year that could make the step up to Super League

Lee Gaskell

Club: Bradford Bulls

Position: Stand-off

Age: 25

It’s been well documented that the influential Bulls playmaker is available and free to talk to clubs with his contract expiring at the end of the year.

A number of clubs are reportedly interested in signing the Bradford star, with Hull FC and Leigh Centurions the two teams that have been linked with him most recently.

His ability to carve open Championship defences with such ease is frightening, and you’d have to think it won’t be too long until he gets a chance in Super League.

Reni Maitua

Club: Leigh Centurions

Position: Second-row

Age: 33

Reni Maitua is another new signing at Leigh ahead of next season.

Maitua has some Super League experience having played for Salford at the end of 2015.

The Leigh enforcer might be in his 30s, but he proved last year that he can more than hold his own with some of Super League’s big forwards.

Huddersfield are rumoured to be interested in Maitua, and he could certainly be on the move sometime soon.

James Davey

Club: Batley Bulldogs

Position: Hooker

Age: 26

Davey Batley

Davey was one of Batley’s major signings in the off-season after joining the club from Sheffield.

He has some Super League experience having made his debut for Wakefield at the age of just 19, and has since established himself as one of the Championship’s best hookers.

With time still on his side and John Kear going to Wakefield, could Davey make a return to the Wildcats or even make a move elsewhere?
