Two of Wakefield’s new signings have suffered injuries in pre-season, the club has confirmed.
Keegan Hirst and Kyle Wood have both spent time out of training after picking up ankle and foot injuries respectively during the start of pre-season training.
Hirst, who joined the club from Championship part-timers Batley, is expected to miss a week of action, but the injury isn’t serious. As for former Huddersfield playmaker Wood, he is expected to return to training next week after an injury scare.
“Pre-season is a tough time for the lads coming back, and the load put on the body, some can break down,” said the club’s physio Ryan Carmody.
Meanwhile, Carmody gave an update on the players who are recovering from long-term injuries and post-season surgeries, reporting that the majority are recovering well.
Danny Kirmond and Chris Annakin are both back in training after being involved in a car accident, with captain Kirmond not having to undergo surgery on a patella injury.
Liam Finn, who underwent elbow surgery a month ago, is also back in training, while Ben Jones-Bishop and Jacob Miller are also recovering well from shoulder surgery.
One exception is Ashley Gibson, whose recovery from a dislocated shoulder has resulted in some complications. The centre is expected to return to full training in six weeks.
