Dragons coach slams Dream Team selection process

Catalan boss Laurent Frayssinous has questioned the system used to select Super League’s Dream Team after it was confirmed yesterday that in-form Dragons full-back Morgan Escaré had been overlooked.

The young French star, who was one try shy of topping the league’s scoring charts, was edged out by Rhinos sweeper Zak Hardaker in the media vote.

Frayssinous told this week’s League Express: “Morgan definitely deserves to be in the Dream Team.

“There are two reasons for me. First, he has scored 27 tries in 27 games, which is awesome.

Then there is the second year syndrome, when you play good the first year, it is even harder to play good the second year too.

“To play like he did, in the World Cup, with no rest, then to play all the games at 22 years old, frankly, I think he deserves to be in that team.

” I am disappointed for Morgan, because he has done everything asked of him.

“I think there is definitely a flaw in the system. I wonder how many journalists who have been asked to do the voting have seen as many Catalan Dragons games as perhaps they have seen Wigan, Leeds, St Helens or Castleford.”
