Early return surprised me, says Ferres

Huddersfield Giants forward Brett Ferres admits his early return to action last weekend surprised him, after he made his comeback on the field way ahead of schedule.

Ferres was diagnosed with a four-month lay-off after suffering an injury against Salford Red Devils on Easter Monday, but returned just six weeks later to play the full game in the Giants’ Challenge Cup defeat to Leeds.

However, he admitted there is still damage in his ligaments – but says that it is something he will be able to play with as he continues on the road towards full fitness.

“I am feeling very good and getting back so soon was a surprise as initially I was set for four months out,” Ferres told the Huddersfield Examiner.

“However, the specialist then said I didn’t need surgery, so that knocked a month off straight away.

“I flew through rehab from there, but there is still damage to my ligaments – they are still not properly attached.

“But it’s manageable and I managed to get through 80 minutes of a fast game at Leeds.
