Featherstone sign Mendeika

James MendeikaFeatherstone Rovers have signed James Mendeika from Warrington Wolves on a two year contract. Mendeika who has been selected in the Ireland squad for the 2013 World Cup starting this month has Super League experience with London Broncos last season through a loan agreement and also featured for Swinton Lions in the Kingstone Championship. In total, he has made 20 appearances in 2013 scoring 13 tries.
Mendeika said, “I am delighted to be joining Featherstone Rovers. It’s an amazing opportunity to join such an ambitious club who have a strong desire to play Super League rugby in the very near future. This desire matches my own and I can’t wait to start the new season and begin driving towards that together.
“It will be great to work with John Bastian whom I already have a really good relationship with and having already met some of the lads I am even more eager to get underway. For now, I am concentrating on the World Cup with Ireland. It will be a massive experience for me in which I can learn and continue my development and help me when I come back to Featherstone Rovers and the challenge of the new season ahead.”
Incoming Featherstone Rovers Head Coach John Bastian said, “James is another young and very ambitious person with is best playing years ahead of him. He will add quality to the very youthful and yet experienced Featherstone Rovers squad. He has a very good attitude to training and is prepared to do the extra skills in his own time away from the club which I like in a player. James is a strong defender and has good speed and smart skills in offence, he is always looking to improve himself personally and professionally and will add lots of enthusiasm to the squad.
“His inclusion in the Ireland World Cup squad will benefit James and his development immensely. We all look forward to working with him and welcoming James to the Big Fellas Stadium once his international commitments come to an end.”
