  3. Totally agree. I made same point  to my grandson. I don’t like to bag officials as they have a hard job. But these guys made errors today and need to be better.

  4. Ranji knew what he was doing. He made it worse pretending he was injured. We don’t need this in the game. James Bentley  got a yellow for Leeds and a two match ban for it. The Oldham player was stupid and rose to the bait. They should have both got yellow

  5. So with 10 to go Hornets holding a slender 32-24 lead, we make a great break. Two on one. Pass out wide to the second oldham player was absolutely appalling, way forward and chance home. Chase stood over the Oldham player and laughed at him and clapped him in a totally unnecessary and ungentlemanly manner. Fight ensues, Luke Nelmes get 10 minutes and chase gets away with it. Chase should have gone with yellow card minimum and hopefully 2 games. James Bentley hit this punishment earlier this season for exactly this reason.
    That was then game over.

As a footnote I thought the referee was really poor and made a lot of incorrect decisions.

  6. Approaching the 60 minute mark, we are 24-10 up and on attack. Penalty under sticks. Rather than take the 2, we waste the six. From the 20m rap, hornets went on the attack. Got penalty and scored in next set. Rather than being 16 points up with the ball back and running down the slope, the lead gets reduced to 8. Hornets heads go up ours down.

    Appalling  game management !

I haven't checked but someone told me Oldham had at least 6 loan players. Hurricanes had Jose Kenga (Swinton) and Jack Townend + George Collins (Castleford) but were missing 8 first team lads. My guess is that Oldham had trained with their guests but we didn't get the chance.

And Oldham did realy play exceptionally well.

Most of these lads are at Oldham for the season.

  8. Back to the game - I quite enjoyed it today. It was a refreshing change after all the niggle of the Swinton match. I thought Butterworth gave us plenty of options and released Ridyard to be far more creative than recent games. O'Donnell also had great match. Restall was excellent as always. We also nilled the opposition.

Hurricanes gave a good account of themselves.

  9. For any one who has our book Watersheddings Memories, we included two photos of the previous womewns team early 80's. I will dig them out later and try and upload them. Some familiar faces on there!

Thanks for that, it's most interesting.

I do find it odd still though that the RFL have owned this land yet for 25+ years Oldham have struggled for a home.

The RFL don't own, simply hold the land in trust.

    Very good.

I'm intrigued as to what the case is with the RFL is and these fields (I know it was mentioned on the last page about them being trustees). It just seems odd given Oldham's nomad existence since selling the Watersheddings that nothing has come of this before.

The land which Joseph Platt owned was to the side of the huge Feranti Transformer factory. He gave the land to the RFL on the condition to was used for Rugby League in perpetuity. The Feranti closed and the MEN moved in, the council were also keen to get Morrisons onto the adjacent site. However to do this the Feranti RL  team (now Hollinwood) had to be moved and needed the same size of facility. So the council agreed the land swop with the RFL and the team moved acrosss the road to Melrose Playing Fields. The in perpetuity clause still remains.

  12. I understand why these players choose to retire. Working full time and then getting to training three times a week for relatively small reward (no criticism of the club meant by the way) is difficult, particularly when lads are not local. Plus if they can’t get to training for day work reasons then they are generally out of consideration for the match. Likewise they probably choose not to return to the community game for the same reason as many coaches apply the same criteria

Littler confirmed that we had more signed up than announced. Who’s left from last year’s squad: Heaton; Brierley; Charnock; Abram; Pick any others?

I am sure he said we had 23 signed but only 17 announced?
