  1. I think that we need to thank everyone concerned yesterday from the hard working directors to the volunteers who willing give their time to Hornets. Together they all help to keep this club of ours afloat and hopefully on to future success.

Yesterday was pretty special  at the ground but everyone continues to help at all times and I’m sure it goes without saying how grateful we are.

  2. He certainly was a great player and coach at Hornets and was a tough competitor for sure.
Didnt he have a pub in Milnrow for some time before moving back to Yorkshire?

RIP to him and condolences to his family.

  3. That was a truly great result and puts us back in the mix for the playoffs.

Well done to all the squad, backroom staff and everyone that makes this club moving forward.

  4. A reliable goal kicker and more self discipline would have won the day against a good Hunslet team. Martin Ridyard didn’t play so he was a loss for us with both his kicking in open play and goal kicking

  5. Yes I feel our division is well thought out for 2024 given all the problems of 2023 so there’s more optimism around the club. I feel that we can all play our part, as supporters, by backing the club both support wise and financially as best we can. I’m sure we all know all the various avenues that we can help financially and I hope we can go the extra mile with this in mind.

It’s been some time since we all feel more confident about our club, both on the playing front and the leadership.

We are all in it together so lets push on to better things for 2024.

  6. I noticed that Ben has signed for OLDHAM on a two year contract.

I thought he was a good player even though our season didn’t pan out as expected and I’m sorry to see him leave.

Dont think its good to see local players sign elsewhere but loyalty has never been uppermost in sport.

  7. Without making excuses Hornets were down to just 18 players in the squad as several players were injured, unavailable or recalled from their loan spells. That’s not an easy task for any club to succeed with such  a limited  squad regardless of what coaching and backroom staff we have at present.

  8. Thought that was a very good display from both teams played on a really excellent playing surface. Although Hornets kept the scoreboard ticking they did fall away a little in the second half defensively, particularly on the left edge. The Hurricanes did. perform well with Murrell leading his troups and trying to referee but Hornets always had that that extra bit of guile. With Crusaders losing at home to Cornwall we are now back in the mix for the playoffs maybe.

  9. There’s never been a more important time to support the club. Look at the bigger picture with regards to what’s happening behind the scenes which hopefully will eventually reap rewards for this great club of ours.

If we don’t all work together for the common cause we won’t have a Hornets to support.

  10. The last coaches disciplinary record shows to be far worse than our present coach.

Furthermore our results were not brilliant given the fact that we had some good players on board and good loan players.

  11. In all fairness we did  have a couple of experienced players missing due to injury, whether that would have made any difference who knows.

Cannot fault the effort put in by our team but we did capitulate badly in the second half especially.

  12. I dont for one minute think Steve is slagging the supporters of and that’s a bit harsh to say so. Surely his statement means that there has been a poor response to purchasing season tickets which is part of the lifeblood of ours and all other clubs. The board and backroom staff have done a sterling job in getting a team out on the park and we, as supporters, should be backing the club accordingly.

There is also no need to buy platinum season tickets if do not wish but if you look carefully a standard season ticket is also available costing £150 on the website as I have just purchased a couple.

  13. How sad to hear of the loss of the Welsh club, it would seem that rugby league is never going to take off in that part of the UK. The club has constantly struggled to compete and have had some serious thrashings which is not good for the game. Regardless, they have manfully soldiered on and have had to endure long long journeys away from home whilst other clubs have only had to travel there just once or twice.
The loss of any semi pro club is not good for our game and I hope they will emerge again in the future as this division needs more teams not less.

  14. Couldn’t agree more that it’s all looking positive for the new season.

When we lost some thirteen players from last season for various reasons, it appeared that the wheels had really fallen off. Some years ago we had the same scenario when we stopped paying players contract money whether they played or not. The result was a mass exodus from the club but, hey ho, Hornets continued nontheless.

With a good blend of youth and experience I feel we are going to be very competitive in this division if the team can stay healthy.

With our great coaching and backup staff and good people running the club let’s get behind our team in big numbers.

  15. I do feel that the balance of senior and young players has been a good mix throughout the season. The likes of Penky, Fui,Rangi and Greg McN have helped steer us through some difficult and close games. Personally, if our league format remains the same, I feel that they could go again, apart from Penky of course.

I couldnt agree more the Ref had an absolute shocker, changing in the last 20 minutes to try and balance things up, I hate it when they do that, the damage was done. Long term, once again, our discipline cost us 3rd or 4th place, which probably would have got us to the final at least. Losing Sheridan to injury and Penky taking his " ball home" was also a contributing factor. A big thanks goes to Fui Fui who for the age of 41 showed outstanding professionalism. Next season should be rebuilding with younger players, not worrying too much at outright promotion, targeting the playoffs as a goal. As ever finances will be tight due to the Rugby Leagues apalling disregard for League 1 teams ( Cornwall excepted). Òverall an enjoyable season of entertaining Rugby for the few spectators that bother to watch us, those that didnt go you missed some good stuff.

  17. A Great result for Hornets and our points tally but not good for rugby league in general.

The Welsh Team were actually very good with ball in hand and played some open rugby with their slick passing and offloading which deserved more than a mere one try.

However, their defending was woeful and they left gaps everywhere especially out wide. If they can improve defensively then they will certainly get better results in the future.

Finally, we seem to have unearthed a very good goal kicker in Tyrer who kicked thirteen goals, some of which where from the touchline and he deservedly won the man of the match.
