Which one? there's 2, both equally good and with lots of cracking beers on.

And for railway buffs, one at each side of the station entrance, both were formerly separate booking offices for the railway companies that shared the station, if you look above the entrances you'll see the old railways companies lettering 👍

Kings Head permanently smells of wet dog.

Look at the Money for projects given by Lotto and this might change your mind at least a little, maybe, perhaps!

They’d have to add on another zero. The cost of getting the equipment down there alone must be through the roof (pub only slightly intended). Be cheaper to just fill the hole in and rebuild at ground level.

I moved to York a while back, and have been very pleasantly surprised at the profile the Knights have in the city, the quality of the stadium, and the facilities and standards of the amateur clubs (Acorn & Heworth have their own clubhouses, multiple pitches of their own, more than one adult team, all the age groups, lots of volunteers etc.) Like everywhere else, football is clearly bigger, but a York club could certainly make a go of things in SL. Fundamentally though, as others have said, it's not that big a place. although there is a much wider region that looks to York. It does have the advantage of being relatively well off. Unlike many RL towns, it's also a place where young people move to, rather than away from, and obviously a lot of tourism too.

I'm about to move to Wensleydale, which means I'll be in a part of North Yorkshire where I'll be well over an hour's drive to my nearest clubs (Keighley) and over 90 minutes to Leeds, York, Barrow or Newcastle. In other words, I was closer to professional  RL clubs when I lived in Cambridge than I will be in Yorkshire. North Yorkshire is just too big and rural to count its population as York's target market.

I was going to make a joke about that but was worried it may have been a bit too cheesy.

    Leigh?

Yes, you may have seen it on national TV over the last week or so given we've done what is seemingly impossible in Bradford and managed to have a stadium complete with seats, roof, running water, full size pitch, car park and spectators in the same postcode area as the pitch. Amazed it hasn't caught on.

Just off camera, I hope there's someone moaning that they want to put the bins out and can this lot just shove off.

On the local Facebook page there were a couple of people complaining that some roads were closed, as if our town is ever going to see scenes like this again (unless the Dutch make it to the quarter finals…)

Yes, I think people probably don't appreciate that we are obviously not working on a full capacity basis as we offer unreserved seating on three sides.

I suspect we are probably working with a 45k setup.

Wouldn't think it's anywhere near that when considering the top tier is shut (although presumably ready for business if necessary)

    100% agree.

I've stopped going to Newcastle now because I find it quite cramped and in a boozy crowd that isn't necessarily fun (and I say that as someone who enjoys a drink).

The last time I went three or four years ago, later in the day, you could barely walk due to the amount of litter around the seats.

Must admit I thoroughly recommend the 1892 Club on that front, albeit obviously more expensive than elsewhere. Huge, spacious padded seats and bar staff falling over each other to serve you. We sat there for 2017 just in case we never got to play there again(!) and it's the first time I've been served so quickly that I've been able to squeeze in two pints at half-time!

Let’s keep it small and 60% attended then eh?  Ace.

As others have said, the flexibility of Magic is one of its great successes. If you're getting towards 80% full then you'd be looking at a move to reserved seating, and that in itself presents a whole new set of issues in terms of allocating the fans of each club, as seen at the Challenge Cup semi finals and final.

Why do you think that won't happen for the RLWC?

It happened in Warrington last time, and it certainly happened when I went to Workington for games there. Maybe not the traffic point, which seems way over the top for a stadium that regularly hosts sporting events, but fanzones, promotion and visible presence in the town should absolutely be part of Leigh/Wigan's bid.

Wait until you the videos of the Dutch fan march tomorrow and it will all make sense...😀

As an elite, showpiece event we should seriously consider cancelling all other RL on Magic Weekend.  You could easily add 5k+ to the attendance.  Give discounted tickets to season ticket holders at Championship clubs, with some kind of cashback for the clubs.  Fans at lower league clubs often follow Super League clubs as well and watch Super League on Sky so to suggest they wouldn't be interested is wrong.  If you tried hard enough you could probably get 5k from Cumbria alone.   Run some buses over.  York's a short train ride away too.

I understand what you're saying. I've thoroughly enjoyed my two visits to Newcastle for Magic when Leigh have participated (and a couple of years as a neutral at the Etihad).

The cost of the tickets isn't the issue and more the cost of travel, particularly from the north west. I'm currently pricing up trains for our away game at Newcastle in August and a day return from Newton-le-Willows (our nearest station on that line) is £90, and even then it's with a timetable that has every single train currently marked as "this train will not operate". I could drive up and save a few quid, but even my 1.2 litre Citroen is going to cost a little over £60 in fuel.

In a similar vein to when this was discussed for the Challenge Cup final, it is a big enough ask to be thinking of paying that out to watch the team you actually support, so do so as a neutral is something that is simply out of the question for a lot of people, particularly mid-season with school holidays and associated expenses on the horizon.

The new RFL facility with 900 seater stand will appear in the top right hand corner of this photo near the blue  national soccer facility ( currently closed ).

Manchester Rangers used to play at the Regional Arena.

Anyone interested in that new RFL set up can get a good read by googling  ' Manchester City planning applications'  and search ' Kylemore Way' . In the documents list the Design and Access statement at the bottom gives you everything you need to know. Pretty exciting stuff and forward looking for a change.......

    Kyle Amor Way, surely? 😀

Behave, the sport is in big trouble if you start penalising tackles like that.he didn’t flip the attacker who never went anywhere near the vertical.

The ball carrier ended up behind the tackler, head first in to the ground. He literally flipped him, unless the ball carrier was somehow taking the ball in while doing a hand stand.

He tackled around the legs, you’d better write a letter to all the kids coaches in the country & tell them they’ve been doing it wrong all these years.

I’d hazard a guess that most spear tackles are initially a tackle around the legs. It isn’t the initial tackle that’s the issue, it’s the way he flips him over his body in to a vertical position head first in to the deck.

Seeing the Halifax vs Barrow game and the bif that has made the headlines do you think the ref got it right?.

For me it's a no, Miloudi seems to have football dived his way to a one match ban after headbutting Worthington, Worthington defends himself and will get three game ban at least. And the most puzzling Gwaze may get a lengthy ban for picking up the "injured" Miloudi. This is a bad look for the refs of the game, it seems they are content with siding with the most theatrical player rather than logic. What is worse it seems they have handed out bans without looking at the footage, Miloudi headbutts Worthington and doesn't get penalized for it. I hope this is not a trend that continues through the leagues as we will be rewarding the player that makes the most of a situation rather than the right call.

How does one player know if another is “injured”, as you say, or not? If he’s on the deck then you don’t drag him up, simple as that. Even more so when he’s just taken a few whacks to the head, with the cuts and bruises to go along with it.
