  1. We will outsing them if nothing else!

Good luck with that one :D

hope we turn them over, i still get nightmares about that game when they hammered us at home. It is probably the best performace i have ever seen from a visiting team at fev

Would that be the one in 2004? At least you gave us a bit of a game in the second half ;)

I'll be out for a few beers in mid-afternoon to make sure the vocal chords are in full working order, safe trip over folks.

  2. 'Fax were unrecognisable today from the one I'd seen on three other occasions this year (against Sheffield, Leyth & Swinton), a real statement of support from the players for Calland, I'd say.

  3. looks like there just looking for an advantage over us, seems quite fair to me to play it on the tuesday, they get 4 days rest from the widnes game we get 3 days rest before we go to toulouse. they were expecting us to go to toulouse after 2 days rest so why couldnt they play us on the sunday giving them 2 days rest from the widnes game.

The RFL wanted us to play after 26 hours on a coach in Limoux, and against Batley less than 24 hours after getting off the plane from Toulouse (Toulouse away and Batley at home being traditional 'holiday derby' fixtures, of course!), so I think we do have a point! That said, I can't see the problem with the Tuesday as it least it gives us more rest ahead of going to Whitehaven next weekend. Swings and roundabouts and all that.

  4. I did want Widnes to win naturally

After the support I gave to Fev when you played the Smogs? Terrible!!

Will be at 'Fax on Sunday and hope that they do us both a favour, but I think 'Fax and Widnes realistically have to start putting a string of wins together if they're going to have a chance of keeping in touch with the top three.

Fantastic to have virtually half a dozen Grand Final contenders, while there's always a chance that Batley or Sheffield might sneak in to the play-offs.

  5. Close Robbie Paul down and win the game, simple!

Not at all, in fact Robbie virtually took a step aside last night to give Riddy a chance to run the show, and he grabbed it with both hands (and feet!).

  6. The first time I've ever watched a championship game on Sky. Leigh were outstanding in the first 30 minutes and we should accept that as true rugby league fans. However, if you watched the attacks building up, they used Paul to hold the ball and as the next player in attack came forward, Paul would delay his pass for a split second allowing the player to overun and carry on without the ball. Paul would then pass to the next player coming in. The outcome is that the player going through without the ball was taking one or two defence The referee can't give obstruction as the player running in could have expected the ball. This is a tactic Millward has used at St Helens and Leigh before and unless the defence of the opposition is on the mark, will always create openings.

Very easy tactic to pinpoint, but not very easy to prevent - all Robbie will need to do is give it to the first receiver on the odd occasion and it will catch the defence on the hop, as happened with our last try last night. When you're stood in the defensive line, you can't help but move towards any players that look as though as they are set to receive the ball, even when you have a nagging doubt that they are just a dummy runner.

  7. ...but I can't bloomin' wait for Tuesday night!

We're going great guns at the minute and Basil has got us playing a really entertaining brand of rugby, but after seeing your past three games I know that we've got a very stern test on our hands.

Last night will have taken a lot out of us, as you'd expect in a derby game, but I'd hope there is plenty of time for recovery and we can go at you at full tilt.

The atmosphere is improving week on week at the LSV so I hope you bring plenty over and make as much of a racket as I know you can - don't forget it's only

  8. Was supposed to be going to Halifax yesterday (OH DEAR!) so ended up at Wrexham instead, and I think I must defend the Cru here Robin as there's no way on earth there was only 1,800 there yesterday - the stand beneath the cameras was completely full in the centre and busy elsewhere, while I was sat opposite the cameras and it was reasonably busy around us; general estimate was that the crowd was somewhere between 2,500-3,000 which isn't bad going for a game on telly.

The atmosphere and overall experience was far better than I imagined - was great to see so many locals who were so enthusiastic about our game.

  9. Thats for the number of top sides youve played so far pal

We've already tonked Halifax away and drawn with Barra. I'd have said, on tonight's showing, we'd have beaten you this weekend as well were we not on the road to Wemberleigh ;)

  10. Wow I've never witnessed so many gloaters on this forum from opposing fans. They must have been overwhelmed with envy. Get over it we lost through bad discipline and a very ropey defence,

What would we be envious of? We're the only ones with a zero in the 'L' column ;)

  11. Given how soon after the final whistle this was posted, I can only assume that my suspicions are correct that it is actually an automatically generated thread after each defeat ;)

  12. Layther Matt,

You can see the difference with some teams, no need to say who, that dual players have made. your structure is great with depth from home grown talent. I just question the need and reason for dual reg and fear a deeper motive from the RFL.

The loan structure was fine and gave players and clubs stability, as you pointed out look at Ainscough.

Can see your point, and I think we'd probably be the type of club that the RFL would hope up as an example as we've done exactly as the Super League club wants in terms of giving that little bit extra to the likes of Mitchell and Emmitt that now sees them knocking on the first team door at their respective clubs. Doesn't do us much good though if they're going to get recalled every other week - the only benefit I can see over the loan system is that the turnaround is much quicker from both sides' point of view.

Nice 1 mate, it was a pleasure meetin, you always come across as a decent bloke when posting on here.

Hope u didn't get a headache from bein sat next to me for 80mins lol

As anyone who has stood within 20 feet of me at Leyth games will tesity, it might be a little hypocritical for me to accuse anyone of being too loud :D

Certainly looking forward to our game at the LSV, and the away game at your place is always a good booze up regardless!

  13. Thing is Suggy, Leigh fans think hey are the best. SO do Barrow fans, Haven, Donny etc etc.

Rovers is our club - I'm happy enough with our lot!! Some cracking lads/lasses amongst us!

    We don't think....we know ;)

  14. Should be a good atmosphere in Toulouse that weekend as their kick and clap boys will be playing in the Heineken Cup final in Paris. Might affect the attendance as it kicks off at 6, unless they change the time of our game.

Hope for your sake that everything is done to avoid a clash - we played on the same night as a Toulouse RU game and it destroyed the home support. We were much louder on the Metro than the rah rah's were there

  15. Yh i was mainly talking about leigh and widnes, loans are a better agreement, its like ainscough, dual contract at widnes, then loaned to cas then back on dual contract, should limit it to 3 players a season max, id much rather see teams bring there youth through ranks like we are.

Can see what you mean as our dual players have all done well for us this season, with Emmitt and Mitchell particularly establishing themselves as crowd favourites.

However, Stuart Donlan, Steve Maden, Chris Hill, Jimmy Taylor, Adam Higson, Danny Meekin and Ian Mort all come through our academy, while Tim Hartley, Tommy Goulden, Ricky Bibey and Martyn Ridyard all began with Leigh East or Leigh Miners so it's not as if we aren't doing our own development as well.

  16. :D

(btw whats happened to the Leythers XIII side? all gone quite since the big guy, i want to say gaz?, stepped down)

I've not played for a couple of years now (since we played in one of the last games at Hilton Park, come to think of it), think a lot of the players went playing for Leigh East's 3rd team which pretty decimated numbers. Think there are efforts to get it started again though, a few of us had a game of tick and pass the other week and hopefully it'll grow again like it did when we began 7 (!) years ago.

I was sat next to a couple of Leythers in away tops asked em if they'd come to see a proper team play on the way by, was that you's?

    Yeah, that was us.
