Just out of curiosity does anyone black out certain dates in their calendar, e.g. GF and CC final, at the start of the season just in case or is it just me? Personally, I only attend finals if my team is in it but I never want to get caught out.

Every year since the year dot. Finally came to fruition last year!

  2. Quite a common occurrence in my circle of family & friends.

Pretty simple really, it all comes down to the importance of the relative games and overall circumstances. A rule of thumb is that football take priority in the spring, RL in the late summer and autumn.

I only missed 6 Bolton Wanderers games (home and away) all season in all competitions, but one of the five missed away games was to go to the Challenge Cup Final rather than Cheltenham v BWFC. However, my wife and I missed Leigh v Leeds and Leigh v Catalans as we were already in Exeter and Peterborough respectively ahead of the Bolton game the following day (not a chance I was travelling down to Exeter on the day, and Peterborough as an early kick off so it made sense to travel the previous evening).

Similarly, one of our group at Wembley last weekend prioritised the play off final over the Wigan v Hull KR semi. Another of our party was pleased he was able to do both the play off final and still cheer on Huddersfield v Warrington on the Sunday. Fair to say he didn’t have a great weekend!

Is anyone really watching SOO wondering which players will get selected for the Kangaroos?

That says more about the poor state of our international game than anything else.

One of the original ideas behind Origin becoming a regular event was as a Test trial. Shame it’s light years ahead of internationals these days and likely always will be.

Wasn't sure with the last bit, no emoji, apart from the IMG bit it didn't come across s tongue in cheek, still i bet some neanderathal will see it and condoning and carry on, bit weird really singing that to EVERY fanbase of Yorkshire clubs though, hasn't someone explained how silly they sound?

Usual sort of thing with such ‘shock’ chants, draw attention to it and they’ll carry on singing just to prove a point (see also ‘the flute song’), leave it be and they’ll soon move on to another fad.

I've heard it and it's a  ridiculous chant.

Not only is it sick, it's akin to a Yorkshire clubs supporters singing about Harold Shipman and Leigh...completely thick

Shipman was from Nottinghamshire, practiced in Cheshire and died in Yorkshire so that would be beyond a geographical stretch tbf. At least Saville is from the right county, so guilty by association 😏

Not big or clever, but we’ve all been young and had a sniff of the barmaid’s apron. All a bit old hat really, and all the last decade has done has seen is Saville replace Peter Sutcliffe on that front.

The chants will only stop when Yorkshire stops producing monsters, I say. Should dock them IMG points, really.

    There will.

However, RLC really ought to have tickets for sale in every category, to cater for a range of demand - unless the lower bowl and CW really is sold out, of course. And if they are getting returns, just put a message about that somewhere with a date they'll appear. The ad hoc drip feed pisses buyers off.

The main problem we have is the game's track record in ticket sales - there's a dishonesty (word chosen carefully) about the way tickets are sold and regulars are fed up of it. I am.

Yes and I do think this has been made worse by having allocations for more clubs. I wouldn't be surprised if those released in the Wigan end were from Sheffield (we know that Wakey are sharing the Wire end).

I do also think that when we see alternate tickets on sale, it's probably just a reflection of them selling one block via two sources. I. E. The RFL hold half and the club holds half.

But, none of this changes the fact that it can be quite difficult to get decent tickets for an event with 30k empty seats.

Club Wembley is the best view but it's almost impossible to get them as a neutral, yet it just won't be full.

Essentially it comes down to having as many seats marked as ‘sold’ as possible, regardless of the likelihood of them turning up. Very rare for any of the Championship/League One clubs to sell all (any?) of their compulsory tickets, but it’s a couple of thousand in the pot all the same.

Having allocations with six different competing clubs really doesn’t help either.

I suppose it depends what you mean by toilet. If the frame of reference is say a portacabin with a broken lightbulb on the terrace at Hilton Park then one can only assume the writer has never been to our capital city.

I take exception to that. At no point did the toilets at Hilton Park ever have a roof, nor anything as luxurious as a (non operational) light bulb.

  8. Actually had no idea how bad Huddersfield’s home record is until seeing the post above. And yet not really a surprise after the performance last night.

Weird to have two teams coached by former scrum halves who looked to be so lacking in imagination, and especially poor on the last tackle on a good few occasions.

Pleased with the win, but I don’t envy the Match Review Panel having to sit through that 80 minutes again.

  9. Will also add that none of these issues are now. It’s 20 years now since there was an outcry that a Wigan v Warrington semi would be played at the then-three sided Widnes ground and it didn’t even sell out. So going smaller doesn’t tend to have the desired effect either.

  10. Spacing between the semi and the final has been an issue, and this year they’ve managed to make the worst of the lot.

I had two nights in Watford this weekend for the League One play off final at Wembley (70k on, don’t mention the score). £55 lower tier ticket, down on the train. Ever the optimist, we had our hotel booked since last July. Cleared £900 between me and the wife and that was even with my in-ground spending amounting to the sum total of two bottles of water.

Don’t rely on many neutrals and, to be honest, I expect a lot of regular fans are going to face issues with such a short turnaround. There will absolutely have been an attitude of not going to the semi final because of having one eye on the final.

Which is why the CC should be ditched it is damaging the game no end showing countless empty seats on FTA TV.

The game needs to get over it and move on wonderful competition in the passed thats had its day.

One major comp and one winner

FTA TV should be used for internationals and loads of them.

Sponsorship wise i would not go near the CC with a disinfected barge pole

I don’t think there are enough expletives in the English language to truly describe how strongly I disagree with your sentiments.

It wouldn't surprise me if it still happened but two M62 venues with 11k in will mean a financial and reputational hit. And that will be the end of the England team aspiring to play anyone but Aus and NZ.

Along the same lines, we have a test match coming up against France which doesn't seem to be selling tickets.

That’s not entirely unusual. I went to the game at Stade Francais in Paris in 2009 and tickets didn’t go on sale until about 10 days before.

Doesn’t make it any less bonkers, mind.

  13. Drunken scraps are all part of the annual Grand Final bingo, along with spotting Vaux purple & green Bradford tops, tin foil trophies and the concourses running out of food before kick off.

Very much a scope for a proper, alcohol-free family section like you see in cricket. Not one for me, but there’s certainly a market for it, particularly near the music stage.

    Go on then Matt, expand?

Must be a lot of folk on holiday is all I can summise.

Best comparison is the Wigan game and work back from there. Plenty of room around us in the East (to the extent that two of the bars have been shut for the last two games) and some quiet spots in the North judging by being able to see the barriers from the East.

Hi Rob I thought there was much more than the previous week v Cas (8,035), there looked to be many more than the 68 difference posted, there were many more Salford Fans than Cas Fans for a start and both sides East and West stands looked to have more in from my vantage point at the top of the North stand, I was estimating late 8,000's comparing it to the previous week.

Can't comment on in the ground as I had to miss both games as ST holder. I was flying to US for work during the Cas game and arrived back about 3 hours before Salford extremely jetlagged so opted to watch on TV rather than risk driving. What I will say for Cas is it looked a lot fuller than last season which was our lowest attendance with just under 5.5k which I think is a massive positive.

Agree with that Matt. The Salford fans sang throughout in what was a good atmosphere.

A few on the road now for us I believe. Need to win a chunk of them moving should we have aspirations to be there or thereabouts come the business end of the season.

Two points at Huddersfield is a must to have a chance of catching the rest, and is entirely possible.
