So my first and maybe only ever NFL game is this weekend, at the 1-5 Chiacgo Bears in a game tipped to be one for the purists.
I couldn't care less, and am hoping to see Chicago's first win in over a year.

Less IMO.
I've not long finished a Short History of England and it is very good at making the argument that what we call England has always really meant the South of England.
Until relatively recently, the North was pretty rebellious. There is bound to be some hangover to that.

A fix MD?
I actually thought the result was about right.
It was dreadful fare, and Fury is no professional boxer but after the first round, he did all the chasing and landed the better shots. KSI just clinched after every interaction.Β
I think a lot of people think a deduction meant a 10-8 round for KSI when it didn't. Even with it, Fury only had to win 4 rounds and he probably did at least that.

Now deducted a point. Might need a KO already.

KSI taking the first round against 'professional boxer' Tommy Fury.

The main issue is that is has been neglected for 20 years. Now fans are sat in crammed seats under a leaking roof.
Itβs a dump, and at the moment weβre accepting it because it a a big, familiar dump.Β
I think a dump is extremely strong language. Compared to Tottenham it is certainly dated, but it's better than the likes of Elland Rd or Goodison. I've also been Man City and Liverpool and much prefer OT.
The best thing about the GF is that it is largely populated by RL fans which is in no small part due to its location. Maybe it could've been held in Cardiff with a bigger crowd but it would be far more people with a passing interest or a curiosity.
The CC final fills that role IMO. Frankly, there just isn't anywhere in the North big enough to fill the role of the GF. If we're to believe talk of near 60k, then had Saints won we might be talking a sellout.Β

At some stage a tough decision will need to be made about Old Trafford. There is an argument maybe it should already have been made.Β
It doesn't offer a great fan experience, inside or outside, although there is a fair argument that as a one off it can be lived with.Β
I do think there is a good argument that factors like access, surrounding area, pitch size, comfort, fanzone etc. should be given higher priority than capacity.Β
It's an interesting question. It has a lot going for it in my opinion: the location is ideal for a sport based around Yorkshire and what was Lancashire: the capacity is about perfect; there is the history of all non-covid SL Grand Finals as well as previously the playoffs and finally it is a stadium that looks pretty good when it doesn't sellout. If there's 55k there tomorrow, it won't be the first thing anybody sees on TV. Contrast that completely with Wembley and say 70k.
It is looking old, and it isn't my favourite ground by any stretch but I think there's nothing at this time that could do the same job.
I suspect it'll get decent upgrades soon anyway. Bear in mind, they're one of the world's biggest football clubs. They'll only be kept down for so long.

Β£2k for a cat?Β
Not a criticism of you or anyone else but I'll just never understand people and their pets!!
Out of interest how much is dog or cat to insure per month on average?
Don't even...
We got it for the kids and they would've been devastated already. It was a really strange situation, there was no indication how long it was going to last and we didnt realise how much the total was until the end.
We originally took it into an out of hours vets and they said we had to transfer it to a day vet. They just kept saying 'we're not 100% happy' and were waiting for certain levels to come down. We had to move her a few times this way over a couple of days.
Eventually, the levels went below the accepted amount but they still wanted to keep her in a third day. At that point, I just had to say no more.

On a similar note, I've seen a few things going around again about a possible London NFL club.
I've always been interested in whether it would work or not regardless of if I think it will, which I don't short-term at least.
I'm not 100% sure on the rules, but I suspect it'd need to be an existing franchise which makes the Jaguars or other ailing franchise most likely. This would be a problem because it would mean they'd likely not be tapping into an existing fan-base. If they were allowed to switch names, that would probably be better.
Then there is sustainability. I've little doubt for a season or two, they'd have no trouble selling out Tottenham. But over time, especially if they're not doing well? I'm not so sure. It was a long time ago, but the Monarchs soon went from 40k+ to 15k.

Was there in 2012 with a Patriot supporting colleague. Game was a rout as they defeated the Rams then in St.Louis 45-7.Β
What I did notice is that the crowd stayed to the end as anyone who has been to a NFL game in America would tell you with that scoreline the place would have been empty long before the endΒ I have noticed that from the early days of listening on rhe AFNΒ American sdon't like one sided gamesΒ
IIRC the earliest games weren't quick sellouts?
Now of course, they are hard to get tickets for which I find odd if the experience isn't that great. Surely there's only so many NFL fans amd casuals wanting to try the experience. As I said, I don't think my mate would go again unless it was at Tottenham and a big team.
-
Has anybody been to one of the NFL London games?
I've got a mate who is a big NFL fan and was at Wembley last week and he was quite disappointed by it and said he probably wouldn't go again. I totally get it, as they often seem quite quiet affairs.
However, the one at Tottenham today looked a lot better. Of course I think the Bills made a big difference compared to the Falcons.

My tip: do it and do it quickly.
We have a young cat and just hadn't got round to it after a couple or months. I was literally talking about price the same day that she decided to eat some lillies.
A couple of grand later she was fine...

Well the Bears got a win! It was starting to look like my first and possibly last NFL game would be at a team who were 0-6.
Tbf they should've won last week but blew it big time against Denver. For a period in the 3rd/4th quarter it looked like it might happen again.

Could be worse. You could be a Jets fan. In the history of Hard Knocks the featured team has never played a home play-offΒ game. That record will be continued this year. Jets won't even play an away play-off game
Judging by the start, the Jets are going to end very similar to last year. 6-11 or 7-10 I reckon.

To me, a half marathon is 'just' regular running stretched out to the distance of 22k. You can build to it and get there as long as you stay fit and put in the training. (And avoid injury or growing old.)
I fooled myself with marathon training that it was the same. What I then found in the marathon - and there were warning signs in a 20 mile run before it that I misread - is that that distance is really not just building on your running experience. You really do need to have strategies in place for hydration, for energy and for dealing with mental breakdowns. I had none of those. I'm proud I still got round but there were a few miles there where I was a shell.
Β
I'm going to do the half and then see whether I think it's achievable.
I watch quite a lot of stuff from the Running Channel and the presenter Sarah completed her first marathonΒ and it was much like you explained. However, she had to stop at one point. I'm totally not judging, but for me doing a marathon would involve running the whole way.Β
Is this something you were able to do?
-
Bit annoyed to find that Sky changed the scheduled game from the Jets-Patriots to the Vikings-Chargers.
Then I realised they might be doing a favour looking at Jets offense in the first half...

For a 24 minute 5K, you're looking at around 15 seconds per 2lbs of weight lost for the average person (assuming you're not getting to the point of losing functional weight).Β
Believe me we're not talking that

It crept up on me. I was running well and had lost weight. I was just going quicker and quicker - the amount by which I nbeat the PBs was a real shock, especially the 10K. It's difficult to maintain, though, and after 6 months when i'd beaten all my records an injury at the end of my Half Marathon PB put me out for a while and the form's never returned.
So much of the PB thing is mental I think. For a while I saw a 25 minute 5k as unachievable but I can beat it quite easy now. My PB is 23:46 and I look at 22 minutes as impossible but I know it's probably in my head. If I trained right and lost another stone, I probably could make it easy enough.
I do still have a thing left over from the previous target where I feel like anything under 5:00 a km is really pushing it. It doesn't make much sense as I've done a 10k at an average of 4:55.
Ultimately, I'll move onto a half-marathon without a time goal, probably mid next year. Did you find them challenging and have you ever gone full marathon?

Considering some of the shots Joe Joyce has shrugged off during his career, this is quite the KO.
Β
Zhang made Joyce look like the boxer everybody has always said he is.
Once you take away the idea of the unstoppable Joyce, there really wasn't much left.
Don't get me wrong, his style would still be horrible for many of the top boxers unable to KO him but it turns out the big hitters would have always had his number.

Everton finally managed to get a win, and a very well deserved one.
I don't know their circumstances, and maybe Everton just played like Man City, but Brentford looked truly dreadful and devoid of any threat at home against a team with one point from 5 games.

Good luck. I'm so far off my PB it may as well be the World Record I'm aiming for! I thought that in 2017 when I was at a similar low point. Four years later I smashed all my distance times.
I didn't start again with that aim. My missus suddenly decided she wanted to have ran a 10k in her life, so I helped her get through one albeit very slowly. My plan was to build up to a first half-marathon, with a view to seeing whether a full marathon is something I could do.
Following the slow 10k, I signed up to run one separately and it was only after I used the Runna app plan that I realised I'm doing quite well speed wise for me. As I've recently turned 40, I quite like the idea of making PBs as an older man.
If I don't get close, I'm not gonna keep trying because PB hunting can be quite draining. The last time I beat my 10k, I had like 4 failed attempts.

I think it's only doing parkrun every week regardless (including walking) that's kept me going at times.
That's handy. Saturday mornings are the lad's football matches sadly.
I've got a 10k a week Sunday that I've been preparing quite seriously for for me. Signed up to something called Runna and found it very useful, and something that has given me structure and made sure I'm being challenged.
Got an outside chance of a PB, but not going to put pressure on myself.

I bought a Fenix 6 and still have my trusty ForeRunner 235 as backup.
I'm struggling back from having (probably) Covid. Walked one three weks ago, ran Mansfield in 29.30 two weeks ago and Aylesbury on Saturday in 28.40. It's always a long and painful journey back to fitness after a break.Β
I started running again about 5 months ago after 2 and a half years off. I'd ran for nearly 3 years before that.
What prompted my stopping was because I got ill and didn't run for 2 weeks. The amount I lost in that time was demoralising. I went from a 49 minute 10k to 55 minutes and not improving. Eventually, after about 3 months I took a break that turned into a long time!
